Volunteer at UVC

  • Greeter

    Role: The greeter is the first face that visitors and community members meet when they enter our doors. Your efforts and presence are UVC’s first impression and first welcome for the person visiting this church – perhaps ever, or in a long time.

    Tasks: This role requires the ability to lift objects up to 10 lbs.

    • Set up/take down signs, welcome table

    • Greet people as they arrive, direct them as needed, and let them know how to access worship guides, connect cards, etc, via QR codes.

    Timeline: Sundays, 9:30AM to 12:15pm

  • Liturgical Arts

    Role: Liturgical arts shapes the aesthetics of the worship space so that the community can more experientially engage in worship.

    Tasks: This role requires attention to aesthetics and embodied experience of worship.

    • Purchase/prepare communion bread and juice

    • Dress the communion table

    • Set up site specific ritual spaces (ie, candle stations, prayer wall)

    Timeline: Sundays, 10:15am-12:15pm

  • Liturgist

    Role: The liturgist serves as a kind of host for worship, shepherding congregants through the first half of the service. Your personality, tone, and presence will serve to help people understand what is happening.

    Tasks: This role requires the ability to speak confidently in front of a crowd.

    • Welcome the community, share the values and mission statements, and share key announcements

    • Invite people to share the peace

    • Invite testifier

    • Lead the congregation in prayer for the testifier

    • Invite the offering

    Timeline: Sundays, 9:00AM to 11:45am

  • Usher

    Role: The usher provides a safe and attentive presence throughout the service.

    Tasks: This role requires attention to details and people.

    • Help people find a seat or assist in other needs, as raised

    • Take attendance and offering (counted with a witness present), and submitting both totals online

    • Prepare offering deposit and deposit at the bank

    • Clear and tidy up used areas

    • Assist other teams in taking-down/putting away items

    Timeline: Sundays, 10:15am-12:15pm

  • AV: Slides

    Role: The slides leader provides visual cues and guidance to help the community to participate more fully in worship.

    Tasks: This role requires the ability to learn and use a slides app (“ProPresenter”) and comfort with technical tasks, like connecting appropriate cords and troubleshooting unexpected issues.

    • Set up/take down computer connection with projector

    • Become trained in the use of Pro-Presenter

    • Update slides, as needed, according to feedback or requests given by the pastor, liturgist, worship leader, or other leader in the service.

    Timeline: Sundays, 9:30AM to 12:15pm

  • AV: Sound

    Role: The sound leader ensures the ability for the community to hear all aspects of the service with clarity and without distraction.

    Tasks: This role requires the ability to engage in audio troubleshooting, as well as learning how to use a digital mixing board app (“X Air Edit”) for adjusting sound levels.

    • Set up/take down microphones

    • Become trained in the use of the X Air Edit digital mixer

    • Adjust sound, as needed

    Timeline: Sundays, 9:30AM to 12:00pm
